What is the difference between veneers and teeth whitening?

Whitening changes natural tooth colour; a veneer is an added covering and may need irreversible preparation.

Whitening uses a bleaching agent on natural teeth to lighten colour within the limits of enamel and dentine. A veneer is a thin covering bonded to the front surface to change colour or shape, and it may need preparation that cannot be undone.

When is each option discussed?

If colour is the main issue and the teeth are otherwise sound, whitening may be discussed first. If shape, front fillings, or a mismatch with existing restorations is the issue, whitening will not be enough. A veneer is not “stronger whitening”; it is a different restoration.

A general clinic in Amman starts with decay and gums. Enamel is not reduced for appearance if a conservative option meets the need.
